Description

The 50WCE024 is a nominal 2-ton vertical water source heat pump designed for individual zones served by a water loop (boiler/tower, geothermal, or hybrid loop concepts). WSHP systems are popular in multifamily and light commercial because each unit can heat or cool independently while the building loop stays within a managed temperature band. This series uses R-454B refrigerant as part of Carrier’s current-generation WSHP platform.

This model is configured as right return with top discharge, built into a vertical cabinet that supports side filter access and front-left water connections. It also includes a corrosion- and durability-forward option set: coated air coil selection, cupronickel coaxial water heat exchanger selection, and an A2L leak detection package. For occupants, the compressor blanket plus closed-cell foam insulation selection is meant to reduce noise transmission and help the cabinet feel “tighter” acoustically.

On published AHRI/ANSI 13256-1 rating tables under water-loop rated conditions, the ECM category for size 024 is shown at 24,500 BTU/h cooling and 28,000 BTU/h heating. Final selection should still be matched to loop temperatures, airflow targets, and filtration choices, because those are the levers that change comfort delivery in actual buildings. If the loop runs cold enough in cooling season, confirm the entering water temperature limits and flow requirements up front.

Key Features

  • 2-ton class vertical WSHP for water-loop systems: a zone unit approach suited to condos, offices, and multi-tenant spaces.

  • Right-return, top-discharge cabinet arrangement: supports common vertical closet layouts where discharge is upward and return is side-oriented.

  • R-454B refrigerant circuit with TXV and service ports: designed for stable operation across varying entering air and water temperatures.

  • Stainless drain pan + condensate overflow sensor: corrosion resistance plus automatic shutdown/lockout behavior on overflow conditions.

  • Coated air coil option (selected): added protection for coil longevity in more aggressive air streams.

  • Cupronickel coaxial heat exchanger (selected): intended for higher corrosion resistance when water quality is more challenging.

  • Compressor blanket + closed-cell foam + A2L leak detection (selected): noise/IAQ-focused insulation plus leak detection for added A2L safety assurance.
