Description

The 50WCE042 is a nominal 3.5-ton vertical water source heat pump designed for zoned HVAC where a water loop or geothermal source provides the heat exchange path. For multi-tenant owners and facility teams, that typically means simpler zoning logic: each area has its own unit while the loop absorbs or delivers heat across the building. This series uses R-454B refrigerant and is positioned for modern regulatory and refrigerant transition expectations.

This SKU is a right-return, top-discharge vertical configuration with side filter access and front-left water connections. It includes an option set geared to corrosion resistance and acoustics: coated air coil selection, cupronickel coaxial water heat exchanger selection, compressor blanket plus closed-cell foam insulation, and an A2L leak detection package. Those selections are often used where the building has tougher loop water characteristics, higher expectations for quiet operation, or a desire to over-comply with A2L safety provisions.

Published AHRI/ANSI 13256-1 tables show the ECM category for size 042 at 40,100 BTU/h cooling and 46,500 BTU/h heating at water-loop rated conditions, with rated airflow and loop flow shown on the same table. To avoid mismatches, confirm the entering water temperature range and flow requirements with your loop design and your project’s filtration approach. That’s where most WSHP selection issues show up in practice.

Key Features

  • Nominal 3.5-ton vertical WSHP for water-loop applications: supports commercial and multifamily zoning strategies.

  • Right return / top discharge (vertical): cabinet arrangement aimed at consistent mechanical closet fit.

  • R-454B refrigerant circuit with core service elements: TXV-style metering and integral pressure ports for diagnostics.

  • Coated air coil option (selected): added air-side corrosion protection option.

  • Cupronickel water heat exchanger option (selected): corrosion resistance option commonly chosen for harsher water conditions.

  • Compressor blanket + closed-cell foam insulation (selected): sound attenuation and IAQ-oriented insulation package.

  • A2L leak detection (selected): added A2L safety feature even when local code or owner standards require it.
