Multi-Position Air Handlers

Multi-position air handlers are flexible indoor HVAC units designed to be installed in different orientations, including upflow, downflow, horizontal left, or horizontal right configurations. This adaptability makes them ideal for a wide range of residential and light commercial applications where duct layout, space constraints, or retrofit conditions vary.

These systems work with central air conditioners and heat pumps to circulate conditioned air efficiently through ductwork, ensuring consistent temperature control and balanced airflow throughout the building.

What you’ll find here

  • Multi-position compatible air handler units
  • Heat pump and central AC indoor blower systems
  • Variable-speed and ECM motor air handlers
  • High-efficiency AHRI-matched indoor components
  • Flexible installation (upflow, downflow, horizontal)
  • Residential and light commercial ducted air handlers

How to choose

  • Match the air handler capacity with your outdoor condenser or heat pump
  • Confirm installation orientation based on available space and duct design
  • Choose variable-speed motors for better comfort and humidity control
  • Verify airflow (CFM) matches your system tonnage and duct layout
  • Check static pressure rating for duct performance compatibility
  • Ensure refrigerant compatibility (R-32, R410A, or system-specific)
  • Consider service access for filters, coils, and maintenance needs

Multi-Position vs Fixed-Position Air Handlers

  • Multi-position units: Flexible installation in multiple orientations, ideal for diverse layouts
  • Fixed-position units: Designed for one specific setup (e.g., only upflow or only horizontal)
  • Multi-position systems: Best for retrofit and variable duct configurations
  • Fixed systems: Often simpler but less adaptable to complex installations
