In 1984, in Barcelona, a small company called BSV Electronic set out to build electronics and automation equipment. Spanish summers are long, backyard pools are everywhere along the Catalan coast, and over the years the company's pool division, BSPOOL, turned its circuit-board skills toward one of the most electronics-heavy machines on a pool pad: the salt chlorinator.
BSV Electronic SL was created in Barcelona in 1984 and today is based in Les Franqueses del Vallès, in Barcelona province. Its work spans water treatment, industrial automation and electronics. Under the BSPOOL name, it builds salt water chlorinators for private pools as well as for public and community pools, and it exports them worldwide. Retail listings describe the BSV QuickSalt chlorinators as designed and produced in Spain.
A salt chlorinator does a simple thing in a clever way. The pool holds a low concentration of ordinary salt. As water passes through an electrolytic cell, a controlled electric current converts part of that salt into chlorine, which sanitizes the pool before turning back into salt. Pool owners stop handling chlorine directly, and the controller sets how much is produced.
HVAC365 carries the BS Pool QuickSalt salt chlorinator system for pools up to 40,000 gallons, listed in our salt systems category. According to the QuickSalt manual, the 40,000 gallon model runs on 110 or 220 volts, can produce up to about 1.1 pounds of chlorine in 24 hours, lets the owner adjust production from 0 to 100 percent in 10 percent steps, and warns when salt runs too low or too high. A self-cleaning cycle, adjustable from every 2 to every 8 hours, helps keep lime from building up on the cell. The manual recommends a salt level of about 4,000 ppm for most pools.
BS Pool is the pool division, styled BSPOOL, of BSV Electronic SL, a Spanish electronics and water treatment company founded in Barcelona in 1984.
QuickSalt passes pool water through an electrolytic cell that converts dissolved salt into chlorine. Production is adjustable from 0 to 100 percent, and a self-cleaning cycle helps prevent lime buildup on the cell.
The QuickSalt manual gives a working range of 3,300 to 8,000 ppm, with about 4,000 ppm the most common target.
The QuickSalt 40 is rated for pools up to 40,000 gallons and can produce up to about 1.1 pounds of chlorine in 24 hours.
