On a quiet morning in a Scottsdale backyard, the pump kicks on and something odd happens on the pool floor. Small heads rise out of the plaster, spin and push a sweep of water across the bottom, then sink back flush as the next group takes its turn. Leaves and fine debris drift toward the drain. No hose, no robot, no one with a brush. That is the idea Caretaker has been building on for half a century.
Caretaker Systems was founded in 1973 by Les Mathews and based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Its best-known product, the Caretaker 99, is an in-floor cleaning system: pop-up heads built into the pool floor and steps, raised and driven entirely by water pressure, with no electrical connection at the head. A water valve sends flow to one zone of heads at a time, so the system works its way around the pool in a repeating cycle. By the spring of 2004, Polaris Pool Systems of Vista, California, had acquired Caretaker, along with the Caretaker 99, the UltraFlex water valve and related products. Today Caretaker equipment is supported under Fluidra's warranty group alongside Zodiac, Jandy and Polaris.
Caretaker makes in-floor cleaning heads, water valves and the service parts that keep a built-in system running for decades. The pieces HVAC365 carries are for in-floor cleaning systems already in the ground:

Water-driven heads in the pool floor pop up, rotate and sweep debris toward the drain. A water valve sends flow to one zone of heads at a time, cycling through the pool.
No. The heads are raised and operated by water pressure from the pool's circulation system, so there is no wiring at the head.
If heads stop cycling, a zone stays on too long or zones are skipped, worn internal parts in the water valve are a common cause, and a rebuild kit restores them.
