The Brand Story
Champion Cooler: Cooling With Water and Air in the Dry Southwest
On a dry afternoon in the desert Southwest, a warehouse door rolls up and a wall of hot air pours in. Mounted outside, a large cabinet draws that air through thick, wet pads of aspen fiber, and it comes out the other side many degrees cooler, without a compressor or a pound of refrigerant. That is the old, simple physics behind the Champion evaporative cooler.
Chapter 1 · The family
Part of the Essick Air family
Champion is one of a family of evaporative cooling brands alongside Essick Air, MasterCool and AIRCARE, and the Champion trademark is held by Essick Air Products and Champion Cooler Corporation. The family says it has built evaporative coolers for more than 80 years. Its plants are in Texas and Arkansas: most coolers are built in Texas, while engineering and the customer call center are based in Arkansas. Champion makes window, residential and commercial coolers, along with replacement parts and accessories.
The Lineup
What HVAC365 carries from Champion
HVAC365 carries a Champion side-draft commercial evaporative cooler rated from 14,000 to 21,000 CFM with 2-inch aspen media, sized for shops, warehouses and other large, open spaces.
Evaporative coolers work best where the air is dry, because the drier the air, the more water it can absorb and the more it cools. They also need fresh air moving through the building, usually through open windows or doors, so the humid air can escape. Aspen pads need seasonal replacement, and the water reservoir should be drained and cleaned at the end of each cooling season.
