After sunset, a pool becomes a different place. The deck goes dark, the water turns black, and everything depends on the fixture set into the wall below the waterline. For years that meant a single incandescent bulb behind a lens. J&J Electronics, a lighting company from Irvine, California, is known for the LED fixtures that took its place, in white and in color.
J&J Electronics built a reputation as a maker of pool, spa and fountain lighting, with brands including ColorSplash, PureWhite and ColorGlo. In November 2016 Halco Lighting Technologies of Norcross, Georgia, announced it was acquiring J&J, adding underwater and fountain lighting to its own lines while keeping J&J's sales, product and manufacturing operations running.
In 2022 the lighting changed hands again. Hayward, one of the largest pool equipment manufacturers, bought Halco's specialty lighting business, which included the ColorSplash, J&J Electronics, PureWhite and Sollos brands for pool, spa, fountain and landscape lighting. J&J products now sit within the Hayward family.
J&J builds LED fixtures and retrofit lamps for in-ground pools, spas and fountains. At HVAC365 the brand appears in our in-ground pool light fixtures:
The voltage matters. A 12-volt fixture runs through a low-voltage transformer, while a 120-volt fixture connects to line voltage, so a replacement must match both the niche and the existing wiring. Underwater lighting should always be installed by a licensed electrician or pool professional to meet the bonding and GFCI protection rules for pools. See more in our pool lighting collection.
J&J Electronics is part of Hayward, which acquired Halco Lighting Technologies' specialty lighting business, including the J&J, ColorSplash and PureWhite brands, in 2022.
ColorSplash is J&J Electronics' line of color-changing LED lighting for pools and spas.
Not directly. A 12-volt fixture needs a low-voltage transformer, so a replacement fixture should match the voltage of the existing circuit unless the wiring is changed by a qualified electrician.
