The Brand Story
Modine: A Century of Moving Heat, From Model T Radiators to Garage Heaters
In 1916, in Racine, Wisconsin, Arthur B. Modine had a better radiator. He had patented a design called the Spirex for farm tractors, and he built a company around it. More than a hundred years later, that company is still in Racine, still in the business of moving heat from one place to another.
Chapter 1 · 1916
Radiators first
Modine made its early name in radiators, including the Turbotube for the Ford Model T, and during World War II it built aftercoolers for the P-51 Mustang. After the war it turned toward buildings with the Airditioner, a heating and cooling unit for homes and businesses. Today Modine trades on the New York Stock Exchange and employs about 11,000 people.
The thread that runs through all of it is heat transfer. A tractor radiator, a fighter plane aftercooler and a garage heater all do the same basic job: take heat from one place and put it somewhere more useful. Modine has been doing that for more than a century.
The Lineup
What Modine builds today

HVAC365 carries the Amp Dawg, a ceiling-hung all-electric heater for garages, workshops and small commercial spaces where running a gas line or vent is not practical. Browse heaters.
