Long before it meant pool cleaners, Zodiac meant boats. The brand was registered in France on February 2, 1909, and in the 1930s it developed inflatable boats, including a two-seat inflatable kayak prototype. In 1952 the explorer Dr. Alain Bombard crossed the Atlantic in a Zodiac, and the name became shorthand for rugged craft on rough water.
Zodiac's path into pools ran through acquisitions. It bought Baracuda, a suction pool cleaner maker, in 1996, added Polaris in 2005, and in 2006 joined the Carlyle Group to acquire Jandy Pool Products. The pool businesses were combined as Zodiac Pool Systems, and in July 2018 Zodiac merged with Fluidra, creating one of the largest pool equipment groups in the world, with North American offices in Carlsbad, California.
Zodiac today makes pool cleaners, heaters, pumps, filters, sanitizing and automation equipment. HVAC365 carries the Zodiac X7 suction fitting adapter, a small fitting that connects the hose of a Zodiac X7 suction-side cleaner to the pool's suction port so the cleaner seals properly and draws full flow. It is listed with our pool cleaners.
Zodiac merged with Fluidra in July 2018, and Zodiac pool products are now part of the Fluidra group.
They share a name and history. The Zodiac brand began in 1909 and became famous for inflatable boats before expanding into pool equipment in the 1990s.
