Description
Sunstar StarGlo SGM Millivolt Ceramic Infrared Heater | SGM6-L1
The Sunstar StarGlo SGM6-L1 is a 52,000 BTU/hr propane ceramic infrared heater with a millivolt standing pilot, so it runs without any electrical connection. That makes it the straightforward replacement for older standing-pilot ceramic heaters and a good fit for outbuildings, barns and bays where running power is a hassle.
The pilot generates its own control power, and the heater pairs with Sunstar’s millivolt thermostat (42489010) for temperature control. A protective radiant screen comes standard, and it can hang level or angled up to 30 degrees.
StarGlo heaters are indirect vented: combustion products stay in the building and are removed by gravity or mechanical exhaust ventilation of at least 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/hr on natural gas (4.18 on propane). Plan on mounting it at least 14 feet above the floor and keeping 72 inches clear below, 30 inches to the sides and 36 inches to the ceiling. StarGlo heaters are for commercial and industrial buildings, not homes, and must be installed by a licensed contractor.

Frequently Asked Questions
How high should the SGM6-L1 be mounted?
At least 14 feet above the floor. Mounting higher spreads the heat over a wider area; lower can feel too hot directly underneath.
Does it need a flue?
No. StarGlo heaters are indirect vented, so the building needs exhaust ventilation of at least 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/hr of installed heaters, with the exhaust opening above the heaters and fresh air inlets below them.
Can it be used in a house or attached garage?
No. Sunstar rates StarGlo ceramic heaters for commercial and industrial use only.
What thermostat does it use?
A millivolt thermostat such as Sunstar 42489010 with its 20-foot thermostat wire, one per heater.
