Downflow Dual Fuel Systems

Downflow dual fuel (heat pump + gas furnace) systems are matched outdoor and indoor equipment built around a furnace that moves air down. They are made for homes built on a slab and closet installs where the ductwork runs below the floor, so the furnace pushes air down. Getting the configuration right is the first step in a smooth replacement: it decides how the furnace connects to your existing plenum and return, and whether the cased coil sits above, below or beside it.

Each system here pairs the outdoor unit, a matched evaporator coil and a downflow furnace that are certified to work together, so the efficiency on the listing is the efficiency the system is rated to deliver.

Is downflow right for my home?

Look at how your current furnace is installed. If the supply plenum is on top, you need upflow. If the supply comes out the bottom into a floor duct, you need downflow. If the furnace lies on its side in an attic or crawl space, you need horizontal. Many furnaces are multi-position and listed as more than one configuration, but the coil and the venting still have to suit the install, so confirm the layout with your contractor before ordering.
