In Punta Gorda, on Florida's southwest coast, pool owners swim almost all year, but January mornings can still leave the water too cold to enjoy. Built Right grew up solving that problem, manufacturing and servicing heat pumps for pools in the state that is the largest heat pump market in the country. Its reputation was built the local way, on careful workmanship and on answering the phone when a customer had a question.
In 2021 Fluidra, the Spanish-owned global pool and wellness equipment company, acquired substantially all of Built Right's assets. Fluidra said the deal expanded its heat pump lineup and its presence in North America's fast-growing heat pump category. Built Right kept operating from its Punta Gorda headquarters, and Charlotte County's economic development office reported that its expansion would bring 30 new jobs to the area.
A pool heat pump works like an air conditioner in reverse. It pulls heat from the outdoor air and moves it into the pool water through a heat exchanger, which makes it an efficient choice in a warm climate like Florida's.
