The Brand Story

Coldflow: Geothermal and Water Source Heat Pumps Built in Miami

Miami is not where most people picture a heat pump factory. The city runs on air conditioning, but the equipment that cools its towers usually arrives on a truck from somewhere else. Coldflow is an exception. On a manufacturing floor in Miami, the company builds water source and geothermal heat pumps, marine cooling systems and refrigeration equipment, and it stamps them with a simple claim: made in the USA.

Chapter 1 · Miami

A factory in a cooling town

Coldflow describes itself as a Miami manufacturer with more than three decades of building experience and products shipped to more than 50 countries. Its own story centers on geothermal and water source heat pumps, but the work reaches well beyond that: commercial refrigeration, ice machines and marine cooling for yachts, fishing fleets and commercial vessels.

A national directory of U.S. manufacturing plants lists Coldflow alongside Miami Heat Pump at a factory on N.W. 21st Street in Miami, producing water-to-water heat pumps and geothermal water source heat pumps. The company presents its equipment for high-rises, hotels, schools and condominiums, the kinds of buildings where water loops and water source heat pumps are common.

Chapter 2 · The technology

Moving heat with water

A water source heat pump does not trade heat with outside air. It trades heat with water, either a building loop tied to a cooling tower and boiler, or a geothermal loop buried in the ground or drawn from a well. Because water holds a steadier temperature than summer air, the compressor works against a smaller temperature difference, and that is where these systems earn their efficiency. Coldflow builds its geothermal units from 1 to 30 tons, in vertical and horizontal cabinets, so they can stand in a closet or hang above a ceiling.

The Lineup

What Coldflow builds today

Coldflow's catalog spans geothermal heat pumps, commercial refrigeration, marine cooling, ice machines and doors, in standard models and custom builds. HVAC365 carries its self-contained water source heat pumps for homes and commercial buildings.

The Next Chapter

R-454B arrives

Coldflow's current water source units are built for R-454B, one of the lower global warming potential A2L refrigerants that replace R-410A under the federal phasedown. For installers that means A2L-rated tools and procedures, and replacement planning that keeps the new refrigerant in matched, factory-charged equipment.
