Wall Mounted Dual Zone Mini Split Heat Pumps

Wall Mounted Mini Split Heat Pumps

Wall Mounted dual zone mini split heat pumps pair one multi-zone outdoor unit with two high wall indoor units mounted on an interior or exterior wall, usually six to twelve inches below the ceiling. Every system here provides heating and cooling, with a separate setpoint in each of the two rooms.

Wall mounted heads are the most common and usually the lowest-cost indoor unit for each zone. They are quick to service, offer the widest capacity range and work well in bedrooms, living rooms and offices.

Wall Mounted Indoor Units in Heating Mode

Because warm air rises, wall mounted heads aim the discharge louver downward in heating mode so warm air reaches the floor instead of stratifying at the ceiling. With an inverter outdoor unit, each zone receives only the heat it needs, so lightly used rooms do not drive up operating cost. For cold climates, look for Hyper-Heat or other cold-climate outdoor units and compare the heating capacity at 5°F and 17°F on each listing.

Buying Tips

Size each room separately. Use a room-by-room load calculation and match each wall mounted unit to the room it serves.
Use approved combinations. Indoor and outdoor units must appear on the manufacturer's combination list. The dual zone systems in this category are built from approved matchups.
Check the details on each listing. Compare SEER2, HSPF2, heating capacity, sound level, dimensions and electrical requirements before ordering.
Plan accessories. Line sets, condensate pumps, wall brackets or stands, disconnects and controllers are usually ordered separately.

Installation Considerations

Each head needs a solid wall section, a short path for the line set and condensate drain to the outside, and enough clearance above and to the sides for airflow and filter access. A two-zone system also needs a line set for each indoor unit, a dedicated circuit for the outdoor unit and, where required, branch boxes. R-454B equipment must be installed by technicians trained in A2L refrigerant handling. Professional installation is recommended, and a permit is usually required.

Wall Mounted Dual Zone Heat Pump FAQ

Q: Where is the best place to mount a wall mounted head for heating?

A: Mount it on a wall that lets the air throw across the longest open part of the room, away from direct sunlight and not directly above a bed or desk. In heating mode the unit directs air downward, so a clear path to the floor matters more than placing it near a window.

Q: Can I mix wall mounted units with other indoor styles on a dual zone system?

A: Many outdoor units allow mixed indoor styles, but the combination has to be approved by the manufacturer. This category groups systems where all two indoor units are wall mounted units. Mixed systems are listed in the other indoor style categories where applicable.

Q: Will a wall mounted dual zone heat pump work in cold weather?

A: Yes. Heat pumps keep heating well below freezing, and cold-climate models are built for very low temperatures. Check the low ambient heating limit and the 5°F capacity on each listing.

Q: What is included with each system?

A: Each listing shows the outdoor unit, all two indoor units and any branch boxes by model number. Line sets and other installation accessories are sold separately unless noted.
