In the 1980s, pool workers kept walking into a family pool supply store in Largo, Florida, with the same complaint: they could not find products that fought the stains and discoloration showing up in their customers' pools. As the Tampa Bay Times told the story in 2001, that store belonged to Jack Beane's parents, and the frustration of those customers set the direction for the company that became Jack's Magic.
Jack's Magic Products, Inc. is still based in Largo, where a team of about 25 people serves pool professionals across North America. The company built its name on identifying, preventing and removing pool stains. Its Stain ID Kit uses four topical tests to point a technician to the right treatment, its Jack Pacs package a full stain treatment for a 10,000-gallon pool, and its Certified Stain Specialist program trains pool pros in the method. Over time the company also took on the filter, where a lot of what ends up on a pool's walls first passes through.
