At a busy community pool, chlorine is not a one-time addition. It is a steady demand that rises with every swimmer and every hour of sunshine. Accu-Tab answered that demand with a simple idea: dissolve slow, measured calcium hypochlorite tablets into a controlled stream of water and feed the resulting solution back to the pool. The system was long sold under the PPG Industries name, which is why HVAC365 lists it here.
PPG Industries, the Pittsburgh company best known for paints and coatings, once ran a large commodity chemicals business that produced chlorine and calcium hypochlorite. Accu-Tab chlorination systems were part of it. In January 2013 PPG separated that business and merged it with Georgia Gulf Corporation of Atlanta, forming a new company called Axiall. The Accu-Tab brand, its calcium hypochlorite plant and its sales and technical teams all moved to Axiall's water treatment business, with the product line and distribution network kept intact. In August 2016 Westlake Chemical acquired Axiall.
So while the PPG name still appears on equipment and in many listings, Accu-Tab has not been a PPG product for more than a decade.
An Accu-Tab chlorinator holds calcium hypochlorite tablets in a feeder. A metered flow of water erodes the tablets at a controlled rate, producing a chlorine solution that is pumped or injected back into the pool's return line. Because the feed rate depends on water flow rather than on tablets slowly dissolving in a skimmer, operators can adjust output to match bather load. HVAC365 carries the Accu-Tab AT100 chlorinator in its automatic chemical feeders category.
No. In 2013 PPG merged its commodity chemicals business with Georgia Gulf to form Axiall, and the Accu-Tab brand moved to Axiall's water treatment business. Westlake Chemical acquired Axiall in 2016.
An Accu-Tab chlorinator is a feeder that erodes calcium hypochlorite tablets in a controlled water flow, then returns the chlorine solution to the pool to keep sanitizer levels steady.
Accu-Tab systems are typically used on commercial and public pools where chlorine demand is high and steady, adjustable feeding is needed.
Axiall was the Atlanta-based chemical company formed in 2013 when Georgia Gulf combined with PPG's chlor-alkali and derivatives business. Westlake Chemical acquired it in August 2016.
