The Rheem RXBH-1724B15J is a field-installed electric heater kit that adds auxiliary or emergency electric heat to a compatible Rheem air handler or packaged unit.

Compatibility

Use only on equipment that lists this kit on its specification sheet, and confirm the electrical service can carry the added load. Line-voltage installation by a qualified HVAC or electrical professional is required.

Common questions

Does this include a heat strip?

No. Electric heat strips are sold separately; use a Rheem kit listed for this model.

Can it be installed horizontally?

Multi-position models can be installed upflow, downflow or horizontal; follow the installation manual for the conversion steps for each position.

What refrigerant does it use?

R-454B. It must be paired with an R-454B outdoor unit, and it includes the refrigerant leak detection required for A2L systems where specified by Rheem.
