Description
Grandaire 8 kW Electric Heater Kit: EHC07CKB
The EHC07CKB is a 8 kW electric heater kit that slides into the Grandaire WCHL185AA (1.5 ton) air handler. It provides backup and emergency heat for a heat pump system, or primary electric heat when the air handler is paired with an air conditioner.
Heater output depends on supply voltage. The kit is rated 8 kW at 240V and delivers about 6 kW (20,472 BTU/h) on a 208V supply.
Specifications
- Rated output: 8 kW at 240V / 6 kW at 208V
- Heating capacity: 27,296 BTU/h at 240V
- Power supply: 208/240V, 1-phase, 60 Hz
- Staging: Single stage
- Circuit protection: Built-in circuit breaker
- Fits: the Grandaire WCHL185AA (1.5 ton) air handler
Sizing and installation
Pick the heater from a heat-loss calculation for the home, and check the air handler's minimum airflow for that heater size before installing. The heater changes the unit's minimum circuit ampacity and maximum breaker, so the branch circuit and wire gauge must be sized for the combined load. Installation should be done by a licensed electrician or HVAC contractor.
Common questions
Will this fit an air handler from another brand?
No. It is built for the specific Grandaire cabinet listed above, including its plug-in harness and mounting.
How much heat do I need?
As a rough guide, heat pump homes in Florida and the Gulf states often use 5 to 10 kW, while colder climates need more. A Manual J load calculation gives the right answer for your house.
