How It Works
Drains, skimmers, return inlets, jets and plugs are the plumbing fittings where water leaves and returns to the pool or spa. Skimmers pull surface debris, main drains draw from the deep end, returns and jets push filtered water back, and plugs seal lines for winterizing or service. Suction covers must meet current VGB and ANSI/APSP-16 standards to prevent entrapment.
How to Choose the Right Pool Skimmer
- Match the pool type (gunite/concrete, vinyl liner, fiberglass) and the existing fitting brand and size.
- For suction covers, confirm the flow rating, mounting pattern and service life marked on the cover.
- For jets and returns, match thread size and insert style.
- For plugs, match pipe size and plug type (threaded, expansion or winterizing).
If you are replacing an existing part, the fastest way to confirm compatibility is to match the brand and model number on the old equipment. Send us the model number or a photo of the label and our team will help confirm the SP1072S2DGR is the right fit before you order.
Installation and Safety
Suction outlet covers must be installed exactly as certified, with the correct screws and sump. Replace any cover that is cracked, loose, missing screws or past its expiration date. Structural fittings in a pool shell should be installed by a qualified pool builder.
Maintenance Tips
- Inspect drain covers regularly and replace at the marked expiration date.
- Check skimmer baskets and weirs weekly.
- Lubricate O-rings on threaded fittings.
- Use winterizing plugs properly in freezing climates.
