How It Works
Pool and spa lights mount in a niche in the pool wall or install as nicheless or portable fixtures. Modern LED lights use a fraction of the power of incandescent or halogen bulbs and many offer color shows that sync with automation systems. Low-voltage (12 V) fixtures require a transformer; 120 V fixtures must be GFCI protected.
How to Choose the Right In-Ground Pool Light
- Match voltage (12 V or 120 V), cord length (long enough to reach the junction box) and niche size (large or small).
- Confirm the light is compatible with the existing niche or choose a matching niche.
- For color lights, confirm compatibility with your automation or lighting controller.
- Check the pool surface type for niches: concrete, vinyl or fiberglass.
If you are replacing an existing part, the fastest way to confirm compatibility is to match the brand and model number on the old equipment. Send us the model number or a photo of the label and our team will help confirm the 618018 is the right fit before you order.
Installation and Safety
Pool lights and niches must be installed and bonded per NEC Article 680, with GFCI protection, correct junction box placement and cord length. Installation and replacement should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified pool professional.
Maintenance Tips
- Replace lens gaskets whenever the fixture is opened.
- Check for water inside the lens.
- Test GFCI protection monthly.
- Keep cords free of damage and leave a service loop in the niche.
