In 2001, in an apartment building in New York City, Guy Erlich started a company around a small, specific frustration: cleaning a pool or spa usually meant dragging out hoses and depending on the pool's pump. His answer was a vacuum that carried its own power. He called it the Pool Blaster, and it became the first product of Water Tech.
The Pool Blaster was a battery-powered cleaner meant for individual pool owners, and Water Tech received its first patent for it in 2004. From there the company kept refining the idea and widening the line. It added commercial-grade handheld battery cleaners for service professionals, along with the Volt and Precision families. Pool & Spa News readers named Water Tech products Best New Product about seven times from 2005 onward, and the company built up a portfolio of 19 US patents on pool and spa cleaners, with more pending.
Water Tech outgrew its first apartment office long ago. It now works from a facility of more than 20,000 square feet in East Brunswick, New Jersey, and its cleaners are sold through hundreds of retailers in North America and in countries around the world. The company marked its 20th anniversary in 2021, with Erlich still serving as chief executive.
Water Tech makes cordless, battery-powered pool and spa vacuums, from small handheld units for spas and steps to larger cleaners for full pools. Because each vacuum has its own motor and filter, it works independently of the pool's pump and plumbing. HVAC365 carries these Water Tech handheld and portable pool vacuums:
