Description
The Goodman GLXS4BA2410, GD9S960403BN, and CAPTA3022B3 matched split system combines electric air conditioning with gas heating for ducted residential applications. Its outdoor condenser provides 2 tons, or 24,000 BTU per hour, of nominal cooling and uses R-32 refrigerant. The furnace supplies 40,000 BTU/h of heating input at 96% AFUE, while the cased evaporator coil supports the refrigerant-side connection between the outdoor unit and furnace airflow section. This combination is listed at 14.3 SEER2 and is configured for downflow installation, making it appropriate when conditioned air must discharge below the furnace into the supply ductwork.
Key Features
- 2-ton, 24,000 BTU single-stage air conditioner with 14.3 SEER2 efficiency
- R-32 refrigerant system with a single-stage outdoor condenser
- 40,000 BTU/h furnace input and 38,440 BTU/h rated heating output
- 96% AFUE single-stage gas heating with a multi-speed ECM blower
- Downflow system configuration with matching 17.5-inch-wide furnace and coil cabinets
- Three verified Goodman models: GLXS4BA2410, GD9S960403BN, and CAPTA3022B3
System Components Included
GLXS4BA2410 condenser: This 2-ton R-32 outdoor air conditioner operates on 208/230-volt, single-phase, 60 Hz electrical service. Goodman specifies 3/8-inch liquid and 3/4-inch suction connections for this model. It is factory charged for 15 feet of 3/8-inch liquid-line tubing, with final refrigerant adjustment completed according to the installation instructions.
GD9S960403BN furnace: The 17.5-inch-wide, single-stage furnace is designed for downflow or horizontal installation and is set up for natural gas from the factory. It uses a multi-speed ECM blower and requires 115-volt, single-phase electrical service. Propane operation requires the appropriate conversion kit, purchased separately.
CAPTA3022B3 evaporator coil: This cased upflow/downflow A-coil has a nominal 2- to 2.5-ton application range, factory-installed TXV, all-aluminum construction, and 3/8-inch liquid and 3/4-inch suction connections. Its cabinet is 17.5 inches wide to align with the included furnace.
Compatibility / Installation Notes
This is a central ducted air conditioner and gas furnace system, not a heat pump. Cooling comes from the electric condenser, while heating comes from the gas furnace. The 40,000 BTU figure represents furnace input; Goodman lists the corresponding output at 38,440 BTU/h.
Equipment capacity should be selected through a professional heating and cooling load calculation rather than square footage alone. Existing ductwork, gas supply, electrical service, thermostat, clearances, condensate drainage, refrigerant piping, and return-air arrangement must also be evaluated.
The high-efficiency furnace requires approved venting and condensate management. Because the cooling circuit uses R-32, all refrigerant components and installation practices must follow Goodman’s R-32 and A2L requirements. Installation should be completed by a qualified licensed HVAC professional in accordance with the product manuals and applicable codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment is included?
The system includes the GLXS4BA2410 condenser, GD9S960403BN gas furnace, and CAPTA3022B3 cased evaporator coil.
Is this a heat pump system?
No. It uses an air conditioner for cooling and a gas furnace for heating.
Why is the coil rated up to 2.5 tons?
CAPTA3022B3 has a nominal 2- to 2.5-ton application range, but it is paired here with the 2-ton condenser as part of the listed system.
Can the furnace operate on propane?
It is configured for natural gas from the factory. Propane use requires the correct field-installed conversion kit.
Are installation accessories included?
A line set, thermostat, pad, disconnect, wiring, vent materials, gas fittings, and other installation supplies are not confirmed as included and should be selected for the job.
Review the system specifications with your HVAC contractor to confirm that its cooling capacity, heating output, downflow configuration, and utility requirements fit the property.
