Description
This Rheem 3.5 ton dual fuel split system pairs the RP14AY42AJ2NA heat pump, the RCFY4821STANMC cased evaporator coil and the R921T0855A21M4SNAS 92% AFUE gas furnace. It is an AHRI-certified match (AHRI reference 214590165), rated at 40,000 BTU/h of cooling and 14.8 SEER2 with 7.5 HSPF2 heating efficiency. All three pieces use R-454B refrigerant.
How the pieces work together
The outdoor heat pump uses a single-stage compressor built for straightforward, dependable cooling. In mild weather the heat pump heats the home with electricity, and when it gets cold enough the system switches over to the gas furnace, so you use whichever fuel is cheaper and more comfortable at the moment. Inside, the 21" wide RCFY coil sits flush on the 21" furnace cabinet, so the installer gets a clean, square stack with no transition to fabricate.
The furnace delivers 85,000 BTU/h of input with single stage heat and a constant-torque ECM blower sized for up to 5 tons of airflow. As a condensing furnace it vents with PVC pipe and needs a condensate drain. The cabinet installs upflow, downflow or horizontal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included?
One RP14AY42AJ2NA outdoor heat pump, one RCFY4821STANMC cased coil and one R921T0855A21M4SNAS gas furnace. The refrigerant line set, thermostat, venting, drain parts and pad are sold separately.
Is this system AHRI certified?
Yes. This exact combination is listed in the AHRI directory under reference number 214590165, which many utility rebates and permit offices ask for.
What size home is a 3.5 ton system good for?
It depends on your climate, insulation, windows and ductwork. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm 3.5 tons of cooling and 85,000 BTU of heat are right for your home.
Does a dual fuel system need special controls?
Yes. The system needs a thermostat or control that can switch between the heat pump and the furnace based on outdoor temperature. Your installer will set the switchover point for your area and fuel prices.
Does it need professional installation?
Yes. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed professional, and Rheem requires product registration for full warranty coverage.
