Description
The Rheem R962V0403A17M4SCAP is a 96% AFUE Classic Plus gas furnace with a 40,000 BTU/h input in a 17.5" wide cabinet. It pairs a two-stage gas valve that runs on low fire most of the time and steps up to full fire on the coldest days with a variable-speed ECM blower that ramps up slowly, moves air quietly and holds the right airflow for the cooling coil. It can be installed upflow, downflow or in either horizontal direction, so it fits basements, closets, attics and crawl spaces.
Built for steady, efficient heat
As a high-efficiency condensing furnace, it pulls extra heat out of the exhaust before it leaves the house, so about 96 cents of every fuel dollar goes into your home. It vents with PVC pipe, which gives the installer more freedom on where the flue exits. The blower is sized for up to 3 tons of air conditioning, so it can serve as the indoor half of a matched split system with a Rheem cased coil of the same width.
This model is EcoNet enabled, so it can talk to a compatible Rheem EcoNet thermostat and outdoor unit for tighter control of staging and airflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size home is a 40,000 BTU furnace good for?
Furnace size depends on climate, insulation, windows and duct design, not just square footage. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the right way to confirm that 40,000 BTU/h is the right input for your home.
Can I add air conditioning to this furnace?
Yes. The blower supports up to 3 tons of cooling. Pair it with a Rheem RCFY cased coil that is 17.5" wide so the coil sits flush on top of the furnace, and an AHRI-matched Rheem condenser.
Does it run on propane?
It ships set up for natural gas. A Rheem LP conversion kit, sold separately, lets a qualified installer convert it to propane.
Do I need a condensate drain?
Yes. High-efficiency furnaces make water as they condense the exhaust, so the installer will run a drain line to a floor drain or a condensate pump.
Does it need professional installation?
Yes. Gas furnaces must be installed by a licensed professional, and Rheem requires registration to get the full warranty.
