Description
Rheem 2.5 Ton Gas Electric Package Unit (RGEAYB030AJT06XNA)
The Rheem RGEAYB030AJT06XNA is an Endeavor Line Classic Series packaged gas/electric. Everything is in one outdoor cabinet: the compressor, both refrigerant coils and the indoor blower, plus a gas furnace section. Nothing goes inside the home except the ductwork and the thermostat. Packaged units are a common choice for homes on slabs, manufactured and modular homes, and buildings without space for an indoor air handler.
It cools with an R-454B refrigerant system and heats with a 81% AFUE natural gas furnace section rated at 60,000 BTU/h input. A propane conversion kit is available for LP installations.
Cabinet and airflow
This unit uses a convertible cabinet that can be set up for horizontal (side) or downflow (bottom) duct connections, so it works on a ground-level slab feeding a crawlspace or attic, or on a roof curb feeding ducts straight down. The indoor blower has an ECM constant torque motor, which uses less electricity than an older PSC blower and offers multiple speed taps for matching airflow to the ductwork. Rated airflow is 980 CFM.
Sizing and installation
Size the unit from a load calculation (ACCA Manual J) rather than square footage alone. The unit needs a level pad or roof curb, a dedicated electrical circuit and disconnect, a condensate drain trap, and properly sized supply and return ducts, plus a gas line sized for the input rating. Because R-454B is a mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant, installation and service require a licensed HVAC technician, which also keeps the warranty in force.
Common questions
Is a thermostat included?
No. The thermostat, pad or curb, duct transitions and installation materials are sold separately.
Can it go on a roof?
Yes. With a roof curb, the convertible cabinet can be set up for downflow ducts. It also works on a ground-level slab with horizontal ducts.
Can it run on propane?
Yes, with the Rheem LP conversion kit, installed by a licensed gas technician.
