How It Works
The filter removes dirt and debris from the water the pump circulates. Cartridge filters trap particles in pleated fabric, sand filters use a bed of media that is cleaned by backwashing, and D.E. (diatomaceous earth) filters coat grids or fingers with D.E. powder for the finest filtration. The filter must be sized for the pump's flow rate and the pool's volume.
How to Choose the Right Cartridge Pool Filter
- Size the filter to the pump flow rate (GPM) and pool volume; most pros oversize the filter for longer cleaning intervals.
- Match port size and valve style (top mount, side mount, multiport or push-pull).
- Compare filter area: square feet for cartridge and D.E. filters, square feet of bed area for sand filters.
- Consider maintenance preferences: cartridges are hosed off, sand and D.E. filters backwash.
- Check whether the tank, valve, media or cartridges are included.
If you are replacing an existing part, the fastest way to confirm compatibility is to match the brand and model number on the old equipment. Send us the model number or a photo of the label and our team will help confirm the FCHPCCF200 is the right fit before you order.
Installation and Safety
Install the filter on a level pad after the pump and before the heater and sanitizer. Use the correct pipe size, observe the maximum working pressure, and install the air relief and pressure gauge. Always release pressure before opening a filter tank; a tank or clamp that is opened under pressure can cause serious injury.
Maintenance Tips
- Note the clean starting pressure; clean or backwash when the gauge rises 8-10 psi above it.
- Hose off cartridges regularly and replace them when pleats are damaged or flattened.
- Replace sand every few years and recharge D.E. after every backwash.
- Inspect O-rings and the clamp band for wear.
