The Brand Story
First Choice: Getting the Filter Right
Every pool has a quiet organ that nobody thinks about until the water turns cloudy. Water leaves through the skimmer and drain, passes through the pump, and is pushed through a filter before it comes back clear. When that filter is clean and properly sized, the rest of the system barely has to work. First Choice is a name that lives in exactly that part of the pool.
The Products
Cartridges, grids and the filters that hold them
The First Choice items HVAC365 carries are all about filtration. The ProClean Plus 105 square foot cartridge filter is a complete single-cartridge filter for residential pools. The ProClean Plus name is shared with a family of single-cartridge filters built by Waterway. Alongside it are replacement cartridges made to fit Pentair Clean & Clear filters, including a 150 square foot single cartridge and a four-pack for the Clean & Clear 420, and DE filter grids for diatomaceous earth filters.
A cartridge filter traps dirt in pleated fabric and is cleaned by rinsing; a DE filter coats fabric grids with a fine powder that catches particles down to a smaller size. Both rely on their media staying intact. Torn grids and flattened, calcified pleats let debris slip through and push pressure up, which is why replacements are a routine part of pool care. A common rule of thumb is to clean a cartridge when the pressure gauge reads about 10 psi above its clean starting point.
