How It Works
Filter valves, replacement cartridges, D.E. grids and filter media keep an existing filter performing like new. Multiport and slide valves direct water for filter, backwash, rinse, waste and recirculate. Cartridges and grids are the filtering surfaces themselves, and media (sand, glass, zeolite or D.E.) does the filtering in sand and D.E. filters.
How to Choose the Right DE Filter Grid
- Cross-reference by the filter manufacturer and model number, then confirm dimensions: length, outside diameter, and top and bottom hole size for cartridges.
- For valves, match the filter tank thread or flange, port size and spacing.
- For media, follow the filter label for the type and pounds of media required.
- Replace grids or cartridges as complete sets for even flow.
If you are replacing an existing part, the fastest way to confirm compatibility is to match the brand and model number on the old equipment. Send us the model number or a photo of the label and our team will help confirm the FCH721448 is the right fit before you order.
Installation and Safety
Turn off the pump and release all filter pressure before opening a tank or changing a valve. Follow the filter manufacturer's instructions for O-rings, clamp torque and media fill height. Never add D.E. to a sand or cartridge filter.
Maintenance Tips
- Clean cartridges with a garden hose and soak in filter cleaner periodically.
- Check valve spider gaskets for wear if water bypasses to waste.
- Replace cracked grids immediately; D.E. returning to the pool is a sign of a torn grid.
- Keep spare O-rings on hand.
